mum-fav-jen-aug-2009 Hi all, We'd like you to meet Jennifer Barker from fabulous online store mummysfavourite.com.au. Here's how Jennifer answered our top 10. How long have you been in business? We have been online since November 2006. The idea was hatched in July 2006. What did you do before you started your business? I was a primary school teacher at a private boys school / rugby coach / housemistress of 80 boys / debating coach - lots of hats under the one title!! I was a stay at home mum though for 3.5 years before Mummy's Favourite went online. What makes your business unique? We make it ever so easy for women to buy gorgeous, useful and fun gifts for babies, children and themselves! What do you love most about what you do? LOVE being able to have my children with me whilst I work. I also really enjoy the interaction between our customers and suppliers. We have a lovely customer base. I meet some beautiful people. Where’s your favourite way of sourcing new products? Being approached by AMAZING Australian women who have designed a new product - like Dannielle and Monique from b.box. It' s not an easy thing to manufacture your own product. What’s your favourite time of the day? Driving my son home from school with Milly (3) and Henry (10mths). I love hearing about his day, his chatter and play with the other two and the excitement they share that they are heading home together. I cherish those 30 minutes before the go go go that seems to sum up each evening! What’s the best piece of parenting advice you’ve ever received? "They are kids" I think it sums up how we need to re-evaluate our expectations of children. I heard this before I had my own children and I am glad that I did. If you could become any character from a children’s story, who would you be and why? Too hard to choose only one! One of the things I loved about being a primary teacher was that it was a great excuse to indulge in my love of reading children's books! One favourite is Milly Molly Mandy who lives in a thatched house. Her life is so wonderfully simple and innocent. Who inspires you? My husband. He has leaped many many hurdles in life, especially since becoming a dad and I am so proud of him. Who lives under your roof? My husband, Thomas (6), Milly (3 - really Emily but Thomas called her enemy when she was born!!) and Henry (10mths)
